Blessed Assurance

The hymn "Blessed Assurance" is one of 8,000 hymns written by Frances Jane Crosby (1871-1915).  Despite being blind from infancy, Fanny Crosby's testimony of gratefulness, joy and faith inspired her to write songs and hymns that made her a prominent gospel song writer of her day.  Fanny wrote the first stanza of "Blessed Assurance" immediately after hearing her friend, composer Phoebe Knapp, play a melody on the piano.

I created this little painting at the request of my father, who loves the second stanza and narrated to me what he imagined when he heard the words that described the angels descending from above. Perhaps my father is drawn to this hymn because it focuses entirely on heaven, which he often wonders and talks about.

"These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life...." 1 John 5:13
